MARSHALL GOAL NOMINATED FOR NEW MONTHLY AWARD

9 September 2016

Mark Marshall's stunner against Coventry City has become one of the first goals to be nominated for the new Sky Bet Goal of the Month awards.

Starting this season to run alongside the existing Player of the Month and Manager of the Month awards, the EFL will now be giving out a Goal of the Month award for the Sky Bet Championship, League One and League Two.

For the month of August, Marshall's superb drive from distance during the Bantams' recent home game with Coventry has been selected along with two other goals for the League One category.

Marshall's brilliant effort - his first goal for City - is up against Jay Emmanuel-Thomas' fine strike for Gillingham at Shrewsbury Town and Jay Spearing's winner from distance for Bolton Wanderers against Sheffield United on the opening day of the season.

The winning goal for each division will be announced on Friday 16 September 2016.

In other news, Bolton boss Phil Parkinson has been chosen as the Manager of the Month for August in Sky Bet League One.

City chief Stuart McCall had been nominated but the judging panel decided to give the award to the former Bantams manager after he led Bolton to the top of the league.

Another City old boy - Josh Morris - won the Player of the Month award for new club Scunthorpe United.
