After completing the first six league matches of the new season with largely the same group of twelve-to-fourteen players, City should be able to welcome back some key figures to their ranks soon.
Stephen Darby featured in his first league outing of the campaign at Millwall last Saturday and McCall believes other recently sidelined players will be in line to return shortly as well.
Rory McArdle has joined in with full training for the first time this week, while striker Marc McNulty has also been involved on the training pitch with his new team-mates.
Fellow deadline day loan signing Haris Vuckic, along with Matthew Kilgallon and Filipe Morais, got ninety minutes under his belt in City's reserve fixture with Burton Albion on Wednesday.
Josh Cullen is scheduled to return to Apperley Bridge on Thursday following a spell away with the Republic of Ireland U21s. Tony McMahon and James Hanson are pencilled in to join in with training as well this Thursday.
Nathan Clarke is also making good progress from a calf injury.
McCall said: "Rory and (Marc) McNulty have been in training this week. With Rory, we just need to see him build up that strength in his shoulder.
"(Tony) McMahon and (James) Hanson are looking near. It was also encouraging to see Haris, Killa (Matthew Kilgallon) and Fil (Morais) play the full game for the reserves on Wednesday.
"We knew that we would be in for a tough start given the fixtures we had and the players we had missing but the lads who have been involved have been terrific.
"They are all fighting to keep that jersey.
"It is certainly looking healthier on the training pitch - we expect those pleasing selection headaches to start coming soon."
