The Bantams kicked off their Checkatrade Trophy campaign for the season with a resounding 4-2 victory over Chesterfield following a hugely-entertaining encounter at the Proact Stadium.

After Daniel Pybus had been denied on the line by Spireites midfielder Louis Reed early on, Chesterfield Kristian Dennis fired the hosts into the lead with a well-taken strike midway through the first period.

Six minutes were added on at the end of the half due to injuries to Chesterfield's Connor Dimaio and City 'keeper Rouven Sattelmaier, and the Bantams used the lengthy first half stoppage time to equalise through Omari Patrick.

Building on Patrick's leveller, City raced into a two-goal lead in the second period, with both goals coming via Alex Jones. 

Jones' second in particular to put City into a 3-1 advantage was certainly an eye-catching one, a fine effort from distance into the bottom corner.

Bradford-born Chesterfield midfielder Jordan Sinnott pulled a goal back but Jacob Hanson restored City's advantage soon after with a calm finish inside the box.

Flores is found in space inside the box but his angled drive is pushed away by Doyle.

Gibson's low drive from outside the box is held by Anyon.
Jones fires over the bar from the free-kick that following Evatt's caution.

85min: YELLOW CARD -
Evatt is booked for handball just outside the box. Some in the crowd feel it may have been inside the area but only a free-kick is awarded.
80min: GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chesterfield 2 Bradford City 4 - City have a fourth through Hanson! Jones turns into the box with the ball at his feet before passing forward to Hanson. The young defender shows great composure to calmly slot the ball home into the corner by Anyon's near post with a neat left-footed finish.
Taylor fires the ball across the six-yard box first time after being found in space inside the box. Pybus looks to latch onto the dangerous delivery but Evatt makes a vital clearance just ahead of him.
79min: GOAL - Chesterfield 2 Bradford City 3 - Jordan Sinnott has a goal back for the Spireites when he is found inside the box. Sinnott turns inside past Vincelot before crashing in a rising drive that finds the net via the inside of the post.
Jones is booked for delaying the taking of a free-kick after being flagged offside just inside Chesterfield's half of the pitch.
Flores' free-kick into the box from wide is met by Evatt but his his header is straight at Doyle.
Flores' floated free-kick from wide into the box finds Maguire in space over by the far side but his looping header drops onto the roof of Doyle's net.
Taylor drives forward on a purposeful run after winning the ball just inside Chesterfield's half of the pitch. Taylor gets to just outside the area before firing in a shot that deflects behind.
Maguire strides forward from defence before firing in a low shot from distance that rolls comfortably wide of Doyle's far post.66min: SUBS - Chesterfield bring on Andy Kellett and Chris O'Grady for Dennis and Wakefield.
65min: YELLOW CARD -
Dennis is booked for a foul on Hanson over by City's right flank midway into Chesterfield's half.
Flores' rising drive from outside the box sails over the bar.
62min: GOAL!!!!!!!! Chesterfield 1 Bradford City 3 - Jones at the double! The striker drives forward with purpose as City claim the ball back inside the Chesterfield half. Jones steadies himself and goes for goal from over twenty yards out and the
Devine takes aim from outside the area and the rising drive goes narrowly over the bar.
57min: GOAL!!!!!!!!! Chesterfield 1 Bradford City 2 - Jones has City in the lead! Patrick cuts inside from the left wing before curling a shot for goal from inside the box. The shot deflects up into the path of Jones and the striker has the fairly simple task of heading in past a rooted Anyon.
Reed takes aim from outside the area and his rising drive goes not too far past Doyle's far post.
Law plays the ball into the path of Patrick inside the box but the striker's first-time effort for goal - a prod with his right foot - lacks the power to trouble Anyon.
The Bantams begin the second period.
The Bantams bring on Nicky Law for Gilliead just before the restart.

Taylor plays the ball neatly into the path of Jones with a first-time pass. Jones runs towards Chesterfield's penalty area before seeing his shot for goal blocked behind by Laurence Maguire.
45+4min: GOAL!!!!!!!!!!! Chesterfield 1 Bradford City 1 - Patrick has City level! From a short corner, Taylor plays the ball to Patrick on the edge of the box via Daniel Devine and City's young striker finishes neatly into the far bottom corner with a low left-footed angle drive.
There will be six minutes of injury time to be played at the end of the first half, mainly due to the injuries to Dimaio and Sattelmaier.
Alex Gilliead crosses into the box but Omari Patrick's goal-bound shot is blocked away by veteran defender Ian Evatt.
38min: SUB -
Sattelmaier hobbles off and is replaced by Colin Doyle.
Sattelmaier is down in pain on the floor, clutching his hamstring, after coming out to kick clear an attempted through-ball just outside his own box.
Chesterfield break forward with pace and purpose as a City attack breaks down inside the hosts' half of the pitch. Flores eventually plays the ball wide to Gozie Ugwu inside the box but the giant striker's angled strike for goal is partially blocked by the out-stretched leg of Hanson and the ball loops up into the clutches of Sattelmaier.
24min: GOAL - Chesterfield 1 Bradford City 0 - Dennis fires Chesterfield into the lead with a fine strike from over twenty yards out. Sattelmaier dived across to his left to try and grasp onto the shot but the effort still managed to sneak into the far corner.
Scott Wiseman's long ball over the top causes some concern in the City defence. With only Jacob Hanson and Lachlan Barr back, Flores knocks the ball across the box to Kristian Dennis but the striker drags his shot wide of Sattelmaier's near post.
Jordan Flores takes aim from roughly twenty-five yards out and his fizzing strike for goal has to be pushed away by Rouven Sattelmaier.
12min: SUB -
Dimaio unfortunately has to be stretchered off and replaced by Charlie Wakefield.
We have a break in play as Connor Dimaio receives treatment after appearing to injure himself while giving a foul away just inside Chesterfield's half of the pitch.
Alex Gilliead moves in-field from the right flank before teeing up Romain Vincelot, who fizzes a drive narrowly over the bar from just outside the area.
Big chance for Daniel Pybus squandered! A slip from Jak McCourt presents Pybus with a free run on goal with only Joe Anyon to beat. Pybus rounds the goalkeeper inside the box but his shot for goal is kicked off the line by a sliding Louis Reed.
