BLACK | PLENTY OF POSITIVES FROM CHESTERFIELD VICTORY

29 August 2017

Bantams assistant Kenny Black felt there were a large number of positives to take from City's 4-2 victory over Chesterfield in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday evening.

Goals from Omari Patrick, Alex Jones (2) and Jacob Hanson at the Proact Stadium helped secure the Bantams victory in their opening group game of the competition.

City made ten changes from the draw at Walsall at the weekend, with the Bantams giving first starts for the Club to the likes of Paul Taylor, Lachlan Barr, Luke Hendrie and Hanson.

Skipper Romain Vincelot also played the full ninety minutes on his welcome return from suspension.

Black said: "The four goals and the win are obviously positives for us.

"We started a bit slack, and conceding first wasn't what we wanted after the weekend (vs Walsall), but we responded well and showed a bit of character.

"It was important we got back to winning ways.

"These games are really important, especially for the younger lads in the squad. They give players a chance to show what they can do.

"There is certainly places up for grabs in the team at the moment.

"There were a few performances that caught the eye tonight (Tuesday).

"Alex Jones getting two goals will do him the world of good.

"Omari Patrick chipping in with a goal will help as well.

"Luke (Hendrie) will have benefited from tonight after being throw into the action on Saturday (at Walsall).

"Jacob (Hanson) had a good night, and it was great to see Daniel Pybus and Daniel Devine out there in midfield.

"The introduction of Nicky Law helped for the second half.

"I thought he had a major influence on our performance after the break.

"He gets those around him playing.

"It is really important to have Romain (Vincelot) back and for him to get ninety minutes."

Despite a number of pleasing aspects from the Chesterfield victory, City still left the Proact Stadium with one negative after Rouven Sattelmaier picked up a first half injury.

The German shot-stopper - making his first start of the season - was forced off roughly ten minutes before the break when he appeared to injure his hamstring after rushing out of his box to clear an attempted through-ball.

Black added: "The hand went up quite quickly when he came out for the ball, so straight away we could tell there wasn't something wrong with his hamstring.

"If it is as bad as first feared, he could be out for a few weeks, so hopefully it isn't as bad as that."
