McCARTAN BACK IN THE MIX

10 August 2017

Bantams boss Stuart McCall says City attacker Shay McCartan is back in contention for the weekend's trip to Gillingham.

McCartan sat out Tuesday's Carabao Cup Round 1 tie with Doncaster Rovers as a precaution after reporting a tight hamstring.

The Northern Irish international has now returned to training, however, and looks set to make the journey south for City's first away game of the season.

McCall said: "Shay has trained today (Thursday) and he was fine.

"He missed Tuesday, but he is fully fit once again now to train with us and to travel this weekend.

"There is definitely a lot more to come from us in forward areas.

"Following on from Saturday, I thought Omari (Patrick) had another strong game on Tuesday night.

"Dom (Poleon) was strong throughout, showed a lot of power and pace, and got a terrific goal.

"(Alex) Jonesy got his first goal of the season - that will be good for his confidence - and we obviously got Paul Taylor back on the pitch as well.

"Charlie Wyke is also getting closer, we are hopefully he can join in with training at some point next week.

"He has been upping his work with the physios.

"We have no new knocks - Shay is healthy again - so only Romain (Vincelot), Charlie and Adam (Chicksen) will be missing from the main group."
