McCALL LOOKING FOR MORE FROM HIS BANTAMS

12 August 2017

Bantams boss Stuart McCall is still looking for more from his players despite City making it back-to-back league wins with a hard-fought victory at Gillingham.

Dominic Poleon's second goal of the season helped the Bantams to a 1-0 win and their second consecutive victory at the start of the new Sky Bet League One campaign.

McCall was understandably encouraged by the away success but he knows there is room for improvement and more to come from his side.

McCall said: "Getting six points from six is obviously great but we know we can do better.

"We did enough to win the game but we set standards and we look for more.

"We are still gelling as a side and still looking for our ideal shape but, having said that, the scoreline could have looked more comfortable if we'd taken a couple more of our chances.

"Better game-management from us once they went down to ten men could have seen us wrap up the game earlier.

"We were a bit sloppy on the ball at times and we gave away a few too many free-kicks, especially because that was a good chance for them to score.

"We'd have been kicking ourselves if their late goal for offside had denied us two points.

"We have picked up the win and the clean sheet, which is great, but we know there are tougher challenges ahead and we must improve.

"We will have a good week on the training pitch this week - no midweek game - so we can work on a number of things.

"We know we have players who have still to come back and who are still settling in."

Following on from his eye-catching goal against Doncaster Rovers in midweek, Poleon was City's match-winner at Gillingham to continue his encouraging start to life at the Northern Commercials Stadium.

McCall added: "He was strong again today (Saturday) and he played in the right areas.

"It was good work from (Alex) Jonesey for the goal and a terrific finish from Dom.

"Even the big chance he has at the end of the first half, he has made it himself by winning the ball off the defender and rounding the 'keeper.

"His goal has proven to be the winning goal, and it is another goal for him after Tuesday.

"If you look at his goals-to-games ratio, it is quite good."
