McCALL | WE WANT MORE FROM THE CUPS THIS SEASON

7 August 2017

Ahead of Tuesday's Carabao Cup Round 1 tie with Doncaster Rovers, Bantams boss Stuart McCall says City are looking to achieve more in the cup competitions this season.

Although the 2016/2017 campaign was largely a successful one for McCall's men, City did exit the two main cups at the first round stage.

McCall is aiming for a significant improvement from the Bantams in knock-out competitions this time around, starting with the Doncaster tie on Tuesday night.

The Doncaster encounter will be City's second home game in four days following the season-opening victory over Blackpool at the weekend.

McCall said: "We were disappointing in the two main cup competitions last season. We will be looking to do a lot better this time around.

"Like Saturday though, we are coming up against another side who got promoted from League Two last season.

"They won a lot of games last season and, like Blackpool, they will have the confidence and momentum gained from promotion.

"They put in a strong performance against Gillingham on Saturday as well.

"This is a tie we're looking forward to, however, and we'll be trying to build on Saturday's victory."

Paul Taylor is expected back into City's match-day squad for the visit of Doncaster but McCall isn't anticipating too many changes from the weekend.

McCall added: "Some of the lads who came off the bench on Saturday (vs Blackpool) did well but we're not sure about making any changes.

"We will look at things in the build up to the game but we'll certainly be naming a strong side.

"There won't be many changes if we do indeed decide to make any.

"Tayls (Paul Taylor) has come through training without any problems, we need to build up his game-time.

"Charlie (Wyke) is now running pain-free with the physios but this game will definitely be too early for him."
