McCALL EAGER TO GET GOING

4 August 2017

Bantams boss Stuart McCall says he is counting down the hours before the start of City's new Sky Bet League One campaign.

The Bantams kick off the 2017/2018 season on Saturday (5 August 2017) with a home encounter with newly-promoted Blackpool at the Northern Commercials Stadium.

After a month of preparation in pre-season, McCall believes getting back to the cut and thrust of league football will bring out the best in his group.

With the return to competitive football just around the corner now for McCall's men, the City chief knows his players can't wait to get started.

McCall: "Pre-season is a necessity - you need it to work on your fitness levels and to put plans in place - but everyone can't wait for the real action to start.

"When it comes to games, you want them to have an edge, you want them to mean something, you want to play in front of big crowds.

"Saturday can't come quick enough.

"We are probably a little bit behind ideally where we'd like to be due to a couple of niggling injuries recently.

"The lads have trained well this week, however, and it will be all systems go come Saturday afternoon.

"It is certainly nice to be at home first, we obviously have some great memories of playing there last season.

"We look forward to welcoming Blackpool to the ground on Saturday, and we are wary of their threats.

"They won a lot of games last season and they will be full of confidence after getting promoted (via the League 2 Play-Offs).

"But we are at home. We have to impose ourselves on the game and put in a strong performance.

"I'm sure the new lads will thrive playing in front of our own fans and the atmosphere they create."
