McCARTAN SCORES TWICE IN BEHIND-CLOSED-DOORS FRIENDLY WIN

16 August 2017

Bantams attacker Shay McCartan scored twice in City's behind-closed-doors friendly win against Wigan Athletic this Tuesday.

McCartan helped himself to two goals in the second period at Wigan's training ground in City's 3-2 victory over the Latics.

The Northern Irish international, who also hit the post with a first half free-kick, was joined in City's starting XI by Paul Taylor and Alex Gilliead.

The trio were given the full ninety minutes against Wigan, as were Daniel Pybus, Tyrell Robinson, Alex Laird, Lachlan Barr and Jacob Hanson.

Barr used the game to successfully return from a dead leg, while Laird's involvement at Wigan was his action of the season after an ankle injury.

Daniel Devine was given most of the match before being substituted late on for fellow midfielder Curtis Peters.

Ellis Hudson and Jordan Gibson played a half each.

Wigan took the lead in the match in the very first minute but Devine levelled things up later in the first half.

Devine was played through on goal via a neat back-heel from McCartan and the midfielder kept his composure to finish neatly from just inside the box.

Wigan retook the lead early after the restart but two well-taken strikes from McCartan saw City come away with the victory.
