City's development squad were defeated 5-1 by York City in a behind-closed-doors pre-season friendly fixture this Tuesday afternoon.

Played at York's Bootham Crescent, the game saw the likes of Timothee Dieng, Rouven Sattelmaier, Daniel Devine and Daniel Pybus all get game-time ahead of the forthcoming 2017/2018 campaign.

All four players were given the full ninety minutes against the Minstermen.

The Bantams' development side for the day, led by Professional Development Coach Sam Collins, also featured young professionals Jacob Hanson and Ellis Hudson.

Dominic Poleon and Paul Taylor had been originally pencilled in last week to play some part of this fixture but the pair stayed back at City's training ground to continue their recovery from recent injuries.

With Saturday's Sky Bet League One opener with Blackpool at the Northern Commercials Stadium now just days away, Bantams boss Stuart McCall and assistant Kenny Black were in the stands to cast their eye over City's youngsters in the development squad.

York, who also begin their league campaign at the weekend, named number of their senior pros in their starting XI, including experienced front-man Jon Parkin and former Bantams shot-stopper Jon Wornsop.

It was actually Parkin who gave the hosts the lead less than ten minutes in when he sent Sattelmaier the wrong way from the penalty spot.

Parkin doubled York's advantage just past the half hour mark when he headed home from a wide free-kick.

Fellow attacker Louis Almond then gave York a three-goal lead to take into the break when he slotted in past Sattelmaier soon after.

York made a number of changes after the break to freshen things up, and one of the replacements - Amari Morgan-Smith - netted their fourth early after the restart via a close-range tap-in.

Pybus pulled a goal back for City midway through the second period with a fine strike from the edge of the box, but York completed the scoring for the afternoon when Morgan-Smith grabbed his second with a composed finish from inside the area a couple of minutes later.
