The Bantams slipped to defeat at the hands of Peterborough United at the Northern Commercials Stadium in their traditional Boxing Day fixture.

In front of a bumper holiday crowd at Valley Parade, City found themselves two goals down at the break thanks to efforts from Peterborough duo Danny Lloyd and Jack Marriott.

The visitors deserved their half-time advantage, but City improved after the break and forced Peterborough back.

Tyrell Robinson saw an effort well saved by the legs of Posh 'keeper Jonathan Bond and Timothee Dieng - one of two half time substitutes for City - went close on more than one occasion.

Despite City's improved showing, however, Peterborough netted again on the break to make the game safe midway through the second period.

With City pushing men forward, Marcus Maddison played Marriott in behind City's defence and the striker - League One's top scorer this season - lobbed the ball over the advancing Rouven Sattelmaier.

City did pull one back thanks to a fine strike from distance by Paul Taylor seven minutes from the end but it wasn't enough to prevent the defeat for Stuart McCall's men.

Peterborough bring on Leonardo Da Silva Lopes for Lloyd.
Law plays Robinson into space just inside the box. Robinson turns away from a couple of Peterborough defenders but his rising drive on his weaker right foot sails over.
Dieng heads narrowly wide of the far post following McMahon's delivert into the box from a wide free-kick.
Taylor's drive from distance is held by Bond.
Dieng heads forwards from McMahon's corner delivery but ball is gathered up by Bond.
67min: GOAL - Bradford City 0 Peterborough United 3 - Peterborough hit City on the break to net a third for the game. With City pushed up, Maddison plays a superb first time ball over the top and Marriott lobs the ball over the on-rushing Sattelmaier and into the goal.
Taylor's flick into Gilliead gives the winger a chance to run deep into Peterborough's box. Gilliead eventually shoots for goal but the shot is blocked by a diving Peterborough defender.
Dieng shoots comfortably over the bar with a shot from distance.
Dieng's header from Kilgallon's clipped ball into the box is straight at Bond.
City force three successive corners, with Dieng heading over from McMahon's third set-piece delivery.
Dieng heads over following McMahon's free-kick from wide towards the near post.

Penny is booked for a late and forceful challenge on Robinson on the touchline deep inside Peterborough's half of the pitch.
McCartan's low centre into the box picks out Robinson but his goal-bound effort is turned over by the legs of Bond.
McCartan's low drive from outside the area is saved by Bond's near post.
Maddison's hooked ball in behind has Lloyd interested and Sattelmaier has to race from his goal to block the striker's shot inside the box.

Gilliead fires in a superb cross into the six yard box. The ball misses everyone in the middle, however, with Penny having to put behind for a corner by the far post.

Adam Thompson is booked for catching Lloyd with a late challenge just inside City's half of the pitch.
Gilliead looks to help the ball on from a McMahon wide free-kick into the box but his flicked header beats everyone and drops wide of the far post.

Tafazolli is blocked for a high foot on Charlie Wyke as the striker knocked the ball past him.
Sattelmaier has to scramble across his goal to prevent a deflected drive from outside the box by Chris Forrester rolling out for a corner.
Robinson drives forward deep into Peterborough territory but his eventual strike for goal from the edge of the box sails comfortably over.
McMahon's ball into Paul Taylor gives the striker a chance to turn into shooting space but his effort from inside the area is blocked behind by Andrew Hughes.
35min: YELLOW CARD -
Maddison is booked for delaying the taking of a Peterborough throw-in midway into City's half.
33min: GOAL - Bradford City 0 Peterborough United 2 - Marriott doubles Peterborough's lead when he stoops to send a diving header past Sattelmaier following Maddison's teasing cross into the box.
Following Vincelot's near-miss, the City skipper and Peterborough defender Alex Penny both need a spot of treatment for a clash of heads during the free-kick. Both players are able to carry on.
Romain Vincelot rises highest to connect with a wide free-kick delivery into the box from McMahon. Vincelot is first to the ball from close range but somehow his header bounces some distance wide of goal.
A bright break forward from Peterborough eventually ends with Lloyd firing in a low drive from the edge of the box that rolls wide of Sattelmaier's near post.
Paul Taylor goes for the bottom corner but his low drive from just inside the post bounces narrowly past Bond's far post.
Lloyd surges forward from deep into City's penalty area before firing in a fierce cross-come-shot from an angled that rattles against the outside of Sattelmaier's near post.
14min: GOAL - Bradford City 0 Peterborough United 1 - Lloyd fires the visitors into the lead. The attacker is set free into space just inside City's area and he expertly drills the ball low into the far corner with an angled drive.
Lloyd's ball into Michael Doughty just outside the box is flicked into path of Jack Marriott via a superb first time back-heel by the midfielder. Doughty's smart touch plays Marriott through on goal but Sattelmaier is out quickly to make a smart block. Good chance for Peterborough.
Alex Gilliead breezes past Anthony Grant before standing up a cross into the middle. Robinson goes to attack the aerial ball but his effort drops over the bar.
Tony McMahon gets the better of Lloyd on City's right flank before firing a low cross into the six yard box that Steven Taylor has to put behind for a corner.
Marcus Maddison runs at Tyrell Robinson before feeding Danny Lloyd into a pocket of space inside the area. Lloyd goes for a curler towards the far post but Rouven Sattelmaier blocks it behind.
Ryan Tafazolli escapes a close shave inside his own box when Posh 'keeper Jonathan Bond plays the ball across to him. Paul Taylor goes to close him down but the Peterborough defender just about gets away with it before clearing it for a throw-in.
