14 December 2017

Stuart McCall's Bantams return to action in Sky Bet League One this Saturday (16 December 2017) when they travel to Roots Hall to take on Southend United.

Ahead of City's fixture with the Shrimpers, let's take a look at five possible talking points for the weekend...

1. Back on the road for the Bantams
After three consecutive home games in the league and the cup, McCall's men restart their away fixtures with a visit to Roots Hall on Saturday. City clearly have outstanding form away from home in the league so far this season, with three victories on the trot away from the Northern Commercials Stadium. Can the Bantams continue that run at Southend?

2. Southend strong at home
While City have been in good away form so far this campaign, Southend themselves should go into Saturday's match with some confidence. The Shrimpers are the only side left in League One this season unbeaten at home - five wins and five draws. The Bantams have ended the home runs of Peterborough, Wigan and Shrewsbury so far this campaign, however. Can they claim another scalp this weekend?

3. Man of the moment coming home
City's match-winner from last Saturday's thrilling 4-3 victory over Rochdale, Tyrell Robinson, will be back on home soil at the weekend with the Bantams' trip to Southend. Robinson, who has netted two winning goals in City's last four league games, was born near to Southend-on-sea in Basildon. Another member of City's squad who may also know the local area quite well is Adam Thompson. The central defender spent nearly four years at Roots Hall before leaving Southend in the summer.

4. 'Stat' will do nicely!
Two interesting stats to come from last Saturday's entertaining victory over Rochdale involved Charlie Wyke and Tony McMahon. For Wyke, his Rochdale goal was his tenth of the season, moving him into double figures for the campaign despite arguably not being match fit for virtually all of the opening month. With regards McMahon, his assist for Wyke's goal last weekend was his eighth of the campaign in League One - moving him clear at the top of the charts for goal-providers in the division. Can either player add to their impressive tallies at Southend?

5. Previously at Roots Hall...
City will head to Southend this weekend looking to make up for last season's 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Shrimpers at Roots Hall. That three-goal loss was actually City's first defeat in four at Southend, however. The Bantams beat Southend 1-0 at Roots Hall back in April 2016 to secure an end-of-season play-off spot for that season. City's previous visit to Southend before that came back in December 2012 when the Bantams drew 2-2 just days after the club's memorable Capital One Cup penalty win over Arsenal. A year earlier - December 2011 - a late Luke Oliver goal claimed a 1-0 success for City. Interestingly, City's starting XI at Southend this Saturday could feature as little as three players from last season's line up due to injury and transfers. Can a change of personnel result in a change of favour for the Bantams at Roots Hall this weekend?
