BIG MATCH PREVIEW - CHESTERFIELD (HOME)

6 January 2017

CHESTERFIELD (HOME) - Saturday 7 January 2017, Sky Bet League One, Northern Commercials Stadium, kick off 3:00pm

The Bantams play host to Chesterfield this Saturday at the Northern Commercials Stadium in the club's first home encounter of 2017.

Stuart McCall's men will come into the Chesterfield game having made the perfect start to the new calendar year with a deserved victory at Northampton Town on Bank Holiday Monday.

McCall's side will also have been boosted by the recent arrival of striker Alex Jones, who could be in a position to make his City debut against the Spireites having secured a move to the Bantams on Thursday.

With former Bantam Gary Liddle as their skipper, Chesterfield currently find themselves in the final relegation spot in the Sky Bet League One table.

Danny Wilson's side played out a goalless draw at home to Milton Keynes Dons last time out, with their previous away fixture ending in a narrow 1-0 loss at Port Vale - a game both McCall and assistant Kenny Black attended.

Heading into Saturday's fixture, Chesterfield have netted just once in their last four games but their current squad does possess talented attackers such as Jay O'Shea, Gboly Ariyibi and Ched Evans that City will need to be wary of.

Team News

Bradford City
New Bantams striker Alex Jones could be named in City's match-day squad for the Chesterfield match after the 22 year-old signed for the club on a two-and-a-half year deal from Championship side Birmingham City this Thursday.

Loan duo Haris Vuckic and Marc McNulty have both returned to their parent clubs, while Filipe Morais and Billy Clarke remain sidelined through injury.

Chesterfield
The Spireites will still be without the services of Tommy Lee (shoulder), Dan Jones (foot) and Paul McGinn (hamstring) for their trip to the Northern Commercials Stadium.

Defender Sam Hird missed last Monday's draw with MK Dons through illness while midfielder Connor Dimaio was an unused sub for the match after missing the recent Port Vale away game with a knee problem.

Dimaio did play in Tuesday's victory for the reserves over Nottingham Forest, however, alongside Conor Wilkinson, who is set to play the final game of his loan spell from Bolton Wanderers this Saturday.

Angel Martinez was given the full 90 minutes against Forest after a sustained period out with a long-term knee problem for the Spaniard.

Liverpool loanee Ray Fulton is expected to get the nod in goal ahead of fellow shot-stopper Lloyd Allinson this weekend.

The pair have both been working this season under the guidance of Spireites goalkeeping coach Matt Duke, who played for the Bantams between 2011 and 2013.

Previous Encounters
City ran out 1-0 winners thanks to Billy Clarke's first half strike when the sides last met earlier this season at Chesterfield's Proact Stadium.

The Bantams also secured the win on Chesterfield's most recent visit to Valley Parade. Goals from Lee Evans and Clarke were enough to net a 2-0 win for City on the final day of the regular season last campaign.

The Spireites' latest victory at BD8 did come just the season before, however.

With both sides still pushing for a play-off spot towards the end of the 2014/2015 campaign, a single goal from Chesterfield's Byron Harrison in the first period helped to claim an important success for the visitors.
