McCALL LOOKING FOR 'POSITIVE' DISPLAY AT FC HALIFAX

28 July 2017

Bantams boss Stuart McCall is looking for City to finish off their pre-season programme with a strong display at FC Halifax Town this Saturday.

McCall's men take on FC Halifax - newly-promoted back into the National League - in their final friendly of the summer before the league season kicks off.

Although City still have some players unavailable to them due to minor injuries, McCall will be looking to name a strong side against the Shaymen.

And with the season opener against Blackpool in Sky Bet League One now just a week or so away, McCall wants his side to go into that encounter full of confidence on the back of a good performance at the MBi Shay Stadium.

McCall said: "Obviously the Sunderland and Newcastle games were great tests for us, but hopefully we can show more attacking intent on Saturday.

"It was hard for Alex (Jones) and Shay (McCartan) on Wednesday night. We hope to show more with the ball going forward this weekend.

"We know Halifax will want a good game themselves - they will want to finish their pre-season off strongly too - but we are getting stronger and sharper each week.

"We want a positive display to kick off a positive week leading up to Blackpool game.

"Depending on the situation in the game, we might look to change things around a bit on the hour mark, make a few substitutions and try a different shape.

"We want to put in a strong, positive display both defensively and offensively.

"The aim is to come through the game unscathed and with a platform to build upon going into the week leading up to the Blackpool game."

Saturday's game at Halifax will be a 'behind-closed-doors' fixture, meaning no City fans will be able to attend the match.

McCall admits that it will be different to have no supporters in the stadium but he says the lack of atmosphere won't disturb City's preparations.

McCall added: "We cannot let the lack of atmosphere affect us.

"It is a proper game and we will be treating it as such.

"We have lads in the squad who are fighting for a place in the starting XI for the league opener.

"It will obviously be strange not to have fans in the stands but this is a game we wanted and a game the lads are looking forward to."
