McCALL PLEASED WITH CITY'S PROGRESS

19 July 2017

Bantams boss Stuart McCall was pleased with his side's efforts at Guiseley on a progressive night for City in their pre-season programme.

Against arguably their tough opponents of the summer so far, McCall's men put in a controlled performance at Guiseley's Nethermoor ground this Tuesday evening to pick up a 2-1 victory.

Guiseley raced into an early lead following a strong start at Nethermoor, but the Bantams fought back with two goals in the second period to deservedly claim the win.

Along with a strong display, as many as eight of City's starting XI at Nethermoor also managed to play the full 90 minutes for the first time this pre-season.

McCall said: "There was a lot of good things to come out of tonight (Tuesday).

"Naturally disappointed to lose a soft goal from a set-piece after only three or four minutes but we responded well thereafter.

"A lot of the lads getting 90 minutes and looking strong at the end was certainly pleasing.

"It was especially pleasing considering they had all only played 45 minutes in one go before tonight.

"It was a good competitive game - it always is here at Guiseley - but we mixed it up well.

"We had different options in the side tonight, as we do in the squad in general.

"There was some good performances out there, we looked sharp on the ball at times and moved it well.

"The game was exactly what we wanted at this stage of pre-season.

"It was high tempo, we had to defend well and work hard.

"The lads are pushing themselves and looking fitter all the time.

"Some of the group, such as Romain Vincelot, Shay McCartan, Alex Jones, Matthew Kilgallon and Alex Gilliead, will feature at Eccleshill tomorrow (Wednesday).

"Tim Dieng could do as well but he got a slight knock in training so we'll have to check on him.

"We then have a behind-closed-doors game at Bury on Friday and the Sunderland match at home on Saturday.

"We just want to keep making positive strides forward, as we have done tonight."
