Rory McArdle's thumping second half winner thirteen minutes from time deservedly saw City claim an advantage after dominating the opening game against Fleetwood at the Northern Commercials Stadium.
McCall was pleased by the Bantams' efforts following a strong display from his side, and he has called on the group to go for a similar performance again at Fleetwood's Highbury Stadium at the weekend.
McCall said: "We were very positive and played with a great tempo and great energy.
"We knew it would be tight and edgy but Rory (McArdle) has attacked that set-play from Tony (McMahon) really well and given us a deserved lead.
"It was a big goal and it came at a great time with less than fifteen minutes to go.
"We tried to go for a second late on but we knew we had to stay focused at the back as well to keep the lead we had earned.
"We've had a number of fine individual performances tonight (Thursday). We are understandably pleased with the win but we are certainly not getting carried away - we know nothing has been sorted out yet.
"As we know, it is only half-time in the tie. We now have to recreate the same desire and energy on Sunday.
"We have a lead to go into Sunday. We knew we easily could have been going into the second leg level given how tight we expected this match to be.
"If we can produce another performance of the same quality that we showed tonight come Sunday, we'll give ourselves a great chance."
