McCALL SPEAKS OF 'IMMENSE PRIDE' AFTER ENCOURAGING FIRST SEASON BACK

23 May 2017

Despite Saturday's heart-break, Bantams boss Stuart McCall felt City could still be extremely positive about their 2016/2017 campaign.

In a tight and keenly-contested Sky Bet League One Play-Off Final at Wembley Stadium at the weekend, City were denied a spot in the Championship thanks to Millwall striker Steve Morison's late winner.

The gut-wrenching lost at Wembley was only the Bantams' twelfth defeat out of fifty-seven league and cup games following an encouraging and entertaining 16/17 term.

In McCall's first season back as manager, City also spent virtually all of the campaign in the play-offs spot and went the entire league calendar unbeaten at home.

McCall said: "It is still quite raw for all of us but immense pride is probably the overiding emotion overall at the moment.

"To work with this group of staff and players this season has been terrific.

"It has been brilliant to put smiles on people's faces and to give them a trip to Wembley.

"The backing from the fans has been fantastic. Their willingness to come out and support us and get right behind us has been terrific.

"There has definitely been a feel-good factor around the club this season.

"We are naturally disappointed we couldn't quite finish the job off on Saturday, but we will regroup and get ready to go again."
