Emirates FA Cup First Round
Bradford City 2 (Gilliead 4, Jones 44)
Chesterfield 0
Kick Off: 3.00pm
at the Northern Commercials Stadium

Attendance: 4,747 (380 visitors)

The Bantams safely secured their place in the second round of the Emirates FA Cup with a routine victory over Chesterfield at the Northern Commercials Stadium.

First half goals from Alex Gilliead and Alex Jones proved enough to claim a comfortable win over the Sky Bet League Two side.

Gilliead gave City the lead in the first round tie as early as the fourth minute with his first goal of the club when he slotted home after being played in by Jones.

Jones then got himself on the score-sheet just before the break when he neatly finished past Chesterfield 'keeper Joe Anyon after his run was picked out by strike-partner Charlie Wyke.

City's second goal actually came a minute or os after Chesterfield had seen a effort disallowed for offside when Kristian Dennis converted from close range.

The Bantams also had a goal disallowed in the opening period when Wyke was penalised for a push as he headed home from Paul Taylor's free-kick in first half injury time.

Chesterfield tried to make a game of it after the break - Joe Rowley going close with one particular chance early into the half - but City still enjoyed the better chances in the second period despite their visitors' best efforts.

Jones fired over from close range after Taylor had seen a shot from distance repelled, while Wyke and Taylor were both denied by smart saves from Anyon during the half.

McCourt controls a bouncing ball down on his chest before firing comfortably high and wide with a hopeful effort from distance.
As the ball bounces around just outside Chesterfield's penalty area, Wyke hooks the ball goalwards with a superb volley in the turn. The effort is well-struck and Anyon has to dive across to his left to push the shot away.
The game is briefly halted following a clash of heads between Gilliead and Dimaio. The stretcher is brought out as a precaution but both players are eventually able to continue.
A bright Chesterfield attack eventually sees the ball drop at the feet of Barry deep inside City's penalty area. The full back goes for goal but the effort is put behind via a diving block by Adam Thompson.

Fortunately for City though, the goal is chalked off as Dennis is flagged for offside.
A great turn and run from Jones sees the attacker sprint clear of Evatt and move deep into Chesterfield's half. With Dieng in space in the middle, Jones crosses low into the box from the right but the French midfielder fires high into the side-netting by Anyon's near post with a first time shot.
