DOYLE'S WORLD CUP DREAM ENDED BY DANISH DEFEAT

15 November 2017

City goalkeeper Colin Doyle's hopes of playing a part in next summer's FIFA World Cup ended on Tuesday night following Republic of Ireland's play-off defeat to Denmark.

After drawing the first leg in Copenhagen 0-0 on Saturday, Ireland couldn't make home advantage count in the return encounter as they ended up eventually losing 5-1 to the Danes in Dublin.

Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen was the chief tormentor for Ireland on the night, with the talented attacker netting himself a hat-trick at the Aviva Stadium.

After missing the first leg of Ireland's World Cup play-off to feature in City's Sky Bet League One match with Plymouth Argyle, Doyle was named as a substitute for Tuesday's Denmark decider.

Doyle will now once again return to Bradford following his latest spell of international duty to prepare with the rest of Stuart McCall's squad for Saturday's trip to Wigan Athletic.

Fellow Bantams team-mates, Adam Thompson and Shay McCartan, will also sadly have to watch the action in Russia next summer from home after Northern Ireland recently lost their play-off as well to Switzerland.
