Bantams boss Stuart McCall was pleased to see his side get the job done and secure a safe passage into the Emirates FA Cup second round with a 2-0 win over Chesterfield this Saturday.

First half goals from Alex Gilliead and Alex Jones proved enough to claim victory for McCall's men over the Sky Bet League Two side in the first round encounter at the Northern Commercials Stadium.

Opponents Chesterfield had their moments in the tie - Spireites striker Kristian Dennis seeing a goal disallowed for offside - but the Bantams could have added further to their lead through chances for Jones, Paul Taylor and Charlie Wyke.

McCall said: "I was really pleased with both of our goals.

"The job is done in terms of getting into the next round, and the attitude from the players was spot-on.

"Chesterfield came here and had a go but our mentality was right today (Saturday).

"I think if Chesterfield keep playing with the confidence they showed this afternoon then they should get out of the difficult position they currently find themselves in.

"It was a decent performance from the lads, and it is naturally pleasing to be in the hat for the next round.

"That was Alex Jones' first opportunity up front with Charlie Wyke. He looked sharp and took his goal well.

"When you do play with two up top and two wingers as we did with Tayls (Paul Taylor) and Gilly (Alex Gilliead), it can leave you a bit exposed in midfield if the opposition play three in there as Chesterfield did.

"It is good having those strikers on the pitch and having the ability to put the ball in the box from wide, but you have to find that balance as well.

"Today's performance has certainly given us food for thought.

"Gilly's goal is a good example of what we're looking for - wingers to come inside and make runs down the middle when possible to mix things up a bit.

"Paul Taylor did it at MK Dons a few weeks back and Gilly has done it today for his goal.

"At the other end of the pitch, it is two consecutive clean-sheets for us, and we now look forward to Monday's second round draw."
