McCALL LOOKING FOR PLAYERS TO IMPRESS IN ROTHERHAM CHECKATRADE TROPHY MATCH

6 November 2017

Bantams boss Stuart McCall is looking for a number of his squad players to use Tuesday's Checkatrade Trophy group game with Rotherham United as a chance to impress.

Having already qualified for the knock-out stages of the competition, McCall's men go into their final group match at the Northern Commercials Stadium knowing a point will secure top spot and a home tie in the next round.

The vast majority of City's bench from Saturday's Emirates FA Cup encounter with Chesterfield - including attacking trio Omari Patrick, Dominic Poleon and Shay McCartan - are set to feature against the Millers, who themselves need a victory to have any chance of progressing.

McCall said: "We have a number of players - the likes of Dom (Poleon), Omari (Patrick), Shay (McCartan), Dan Pybus, Daniel Devine, Tyrell Robinson, Jordan Gibson - who need game-time.

"Obviously we need to get the quota right in terms of 'qualifying' players (for the Checkatrade Trophy), but we also want to give some of the younger lads who have done well for us in this competition another chance to show what they can do.

"There will be some players involved who maybe haven't had too much football recently but we will be looking for a strong performance.

"We know how important this competition is to us, especially for the younger players.

"Tyrell and Jordan will have taken a lot of confidence from their performances against Manchester City U21s.

"Jacob Hanson, Dan Pybus and one or two others also did well at Chesterfield in our first group game.

"We know we are through but we still might need another point to make sure we finish top and get a home tie.

"I'm not sure about Rotherham's approach to the game but I believe they need a win to give themselves any chance of progression.

"Our approach to the match will be as normal.

"As we say to all of the lads - experienced or inexperienced - whether it is at the training ground, coming on as a substitute, playing in the Checkatrade Trophy, FA Cup or in the league, go out and be the best you can be.

"Take your chance to impress."

Admission prices for the Rotherham Checkatrade Trophy match are £10.00 for adults, £5.00 for senior citizens/students and £1.00 for juniors. The game will kick off at 7:30pm.
