HARD WORK PAYING OFF FOR ROBINSON

13 November 2017

Bantams youngster Tyrell Robinson says he is hungry for more first team action after his recent involvement with Stuart McCall's senior squad.

Robinson came off the bench at half time at the weekend to play in an attacking full back role during the second period of City's Sky Bet League One match with Plymouth Argyle.

Robinson's 45-minute spell against the Pilgrims was his longest period of action in a league fixture so far this season.

The former Arsenal player, who can play either as a left back or left winger, seemed to catch the eye of the watching home support with a number of impressive deliveries from wide into the Plymouth penalty area.

Along with his Plymouth appearance, Robinson has also featured off the bench in the home matches against Charlton Athletic and Chesterfield in recent weeks.

The speedster - a regular in the Bantams' Development Squad fixtures this season - has started City's last two Checkatrade Trophy matches as well.

The 20 year-old believes hard work at the training ground is the main reason for his movement up the pecking order within McCall's squad.

Robinson isn't ready to rest on his laurels just yet, however, and he is looking for even more on-field action as the season progresses.

He said: "Saturday was a frustrating one, we've done everything we could to get something from the game.

"I came on at half time at left back but I was instructed by the manager to almost play as a left winger when possible because they (Plymouth) were sitting so deep.

"Because they were sitting back, I had space to drive forward into and the chance to get crosses into the box.

"Saturday was the most minutes I've had in the league so far in a single game.

"It was a great feeling, and I just want to push on now.

"The aim has to be to try and get more match minutes in or maybe even a start at some point.

"Come Monday though, it will be head down for me and more hard work to try and get myself in the squad for Wigan away next Saturday.

"I definitely feel I am progressing. I feel a lot fitter now than I did when I first joined the club.

"It was hard to begin with, being down at the bottom with my fitness levels, but the coaching staff here have really got behind me.

"They have been putting me through my paces. It has helped a lot, and I think you are beginning to see that improvement with me.

"I just have to get my head down now and see where I can go.

"My fitness levels are a lot better now so hopefully I can push on."
