BLACK: THE YOUNG LADS SHOWCASED THEIR ABILITY

25 October 2017

City Assistant Manager Kenny Black spoke after Tuesday evening's Checkatrade Trophy victory against Manchester City's Under-21s. First half goals from Adam Thompson and Alex Jones proved enough for victory and progression into the knockout stages of the competition.

Black said: 'It was a perfect response from our defeat on Saturday and I thought in the first half especially, we played in a really positive manner.'

'We got the two early goals and were unlucky not to add to that. The second half was a bit more of an open game and they got a goal back.'

'We had a young team out and it was an opportunity for those younger players to go out their and showcase their ability and they certainly did that against a talented Manchester City side.'

'Towards the end of the game, they put us under pressure but we defended manfully and the experience of Adam Thompson and Nat Knight-Percival at centre back was really important.'

'I think the mixture of the younger players and experienced players worked well; they benefited from playing together.

'Jordan Gibson and Tyrell Robinson caught they eye and were exciting with their direct play and pace on the wings, but all of the younger lads did well tonight - including the two Dans (Pybus and Devine) in the middle of the park.'

'All of the younger lads really grasped their opportunity. They played really well for us tonight and it was a chance that they deserved. The gap between the Development Squad and the first team is closing considerably.'

'It was good for Alex Jones to get a goal this evening and he will feel the benefit from getting a good 90 minutes under his belt.'
