The Bantams registered a hugely impressive away victory at Peterborough United this Saturday, inflicting a first league defeat of the season on the early season pace-setters.

Hosts Peterborough were top of the league going into the match, but three first half goals from Stuart McCall's brilliant Bantams put City in command at the break.

Clearly buoyed by last weekend's win over Bristol Rovers, McCall's men made a bright start to the game, and they deservedly led after seven minutes when Dominic Poleon fired home after Peterborough 'keeper Jonathan Bond had spilled a cross from Adam Chicksen.

The Bantams doubled their lead with just under ten minutes of the opening period to go when Romain Vincelot flung himself at a Tony McMahon corner to convert with a diving header.

Vincelot's goal came after the Frenchman had gone narrowly close with another header from a free-kick shortly before.

Just four minutes later, City were even further ahead when Matthew Kilgallon glanced home from a McMahon wide free-kick delivery.

As expected, Peterborough came at the Bantams after the restart, but an alert Kilgallon was on hand to kick clear off the line after a goal-bound volley from Junior Morias around the hour mark.

The clearance was City's second of that nature in the game after Nicky Law had denied Ryan Tafazolli in similar fashion in the first period.

City shot-stopper Colin Doyle then tipped over from a Marcus Maddison curler from outside the box later in the half.

Peterborough did pull one back nineteen minutes from the end when Jack Baldwin fired home from close range after City had failed to properly clear from a Maddison corner.

Despite Baldwin's intervention though, City never really looked in danger of surrending their lead.

They could have actually added to their advantage ten minutes from the end but for a vital tackle from Steven Taylor to deny Omari Patrick a tap-in after good work from Poleon.

The game ended with both sides losing a player each in the closing stages of normal time.

Posh midfielder Anthony Grant was given his second caution for deliberate hand-ball two minutes from the end of normal time.

Adam Chicksen received his own dismissal in the same fashion less than sixty seconds later, the left back cautioned for the second time in just eight minutes.

The victory was City's third successive win at the ABAX Stadium following successes in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 campaigns.
