YOUNG PROSPECT HANDED NEW CLUB DEAL

19 September 2017

Bradford City is pleased to confirm the announcement of an exciting deal for young academy prospect Reece Staunton.

The 15 year-old centre half has been handed a two-year academy scholarship at the football club, with a one-year professional contract to follow automatically afterwards.

Reece, who attends Bradford Academy Secondary School, joined City at Under-12 level and has continued to develop at a rapid rate under the guidance of the academy staff.

Reece made his debut in the Under 18s while still part of the Under 15s set-up last season, progressing onwards to become a regular starter with the Youth Team this campaign.

He is also currently being monitored by the Republic of Ireland national set-up.

Speaking about Reece’s progression, Drury said: “Reece is a prime example of what we look for at Bradford City.

“Not only does he possess real qualities as a footballer but he’s a respectful and hard-working lad who has shown a willingness to learn and develop.

“He has a no fear of failure mentality and he responds positively to each challenge he faces.

“I’ve enjoyed working with Reece over the last two years and I’m delighted that the football club have rewarded him with a professional contract at the age of 15”

With the club’s investment in youth through to the creation of a new development squad this season, the long term strategy at Bradford City will continue to be to give good young footballers the pathway to succeed in professional football.

Reece himself said: “I’ve been at Bradford City for the past four years and I have enjoyed every minute.

“I’m a Bradford lad and very proud to have been offered a professional contract at such an early stage.

“I fully intend to make the most of the opportunity at a club that is showing a lot of faith in young players like me.

“I’ll continue to work hard to become the best I can be and I look forward to the challenges ahead”
