McCALL | WE'RE LOOKING FOR THE RIGHT REACTION

28 September 2017

Bantams boss Stuart McCall says his City players will be looking for the right response at the weekend following the midweek defeat to Fleetwood Town.

McCall's men welcome Doncaster Rovers to the Northern Commercials Stadium on Saturday looking to return to winning ways after Tuesday night's 3-0 defeat at the hands of Fleetwood.

While the result was clearly a disappointment for the Bantams, McCall feels there is no reason to be downbeat ahead of the Yorkshire derby with Doncaster.

The City chief knows that unfortunately defeats are part and parcel of football, and he has backed his squad to quickly move on from the Fleetwood set-back.

McCall said: "There is no room for doom and gloom because it wasn't a disastrous performance.

"It was obviously a poor result but it was self-inflicted in some ways.

"We've been punished for making a couple of errors and they have then defended well after that to see the game out.

"Every team will lose games throughout a season, it is how we bounce back now.

"The feeling in the dressing room is still good - the momentum is still there - you could see the lads going until the very end to try and get a goal on Tuesday night.

"We have plenty of good characters in the group."

Doncaster's vist to Valley Parade this weekend will be their second trip to BD8 in less than two months following a Carabao Cup Round 1 tie between the two sides back in August.

Doncaster won the game 3-2 but McCall doesn't think that result will have too much influence on this Saturday's match.

McCall added: "We are certainly a different team to when we played them the first time this season.

"We are stronger, we have more momentum and we are playing better, and, if we're being honest, that particular game hinged on Romain's (Vincelot) sending off on the hour mark.

"No-one could say for certain how that game would have finished 11 v 11 but Romain's dismissal certainly had a big bearing on the result.

"We know Doncaster are dangerous away from home.

"They have beaten Blackburn Rovers, won convincingly at Plymouth Argyle recently and gave a good account of themselves at Arsenal in the (Carabao) cup.

"I'm confident, though, that if we play at our top level - with a real intensity, desire and tempo - we can match anyone in this division."

After tweaking his calf in the cool down following last Saturday's win at Northampton Town, Shay McCartan will definietly miss out on the Doncaster game.

Timothee Dieng continues to make progress from his own calf problem, with the Frenchman hopefully being in a position to join in with the main group next week.

McCall added: "Shay will certainly be ruled out for Saturday (vs Doncaster).

"With a calf injury like his, you could be looking at anything between ten days and three weeks.

"On the positive side though, Charlie (Wyke) has come through a strong training session today (Thursday).

"A couple of the lads who had knocks and were doubts for Tuesday (vs Fleetwood) came through the game and training fine.

"Tim (Dieng) felt a little bit of tightness today but I think that might just be some muscle fatigue.

"The main plan was for him to have a hard week this week getting his fitness in and then look to join in next week, and hopefully that will still be the case."
