COLLINS: 'WE ARE GOING FOR THREE POINTS'

17 August 2018

“We are going to Southend for three points and nothing less”.

Those are the words of City head coach Michael Collins as the Bantams prepare for their return to Sky Bet League One action.

Collins’ men lost out on penalties last time out, as City faced Macclesfield in Carabao Cup action, and travel to face Southend United tomorrow (kick-off 3.00pm).

“We need to get the win this weekend and have prepared accordingly,” he said.

“We can’t dress it up, it is what we have been working towards since Tuesday evening.

“It will be an entertaining game. Southend are a technical side and they go well on home turf.

“They will have some problem solving to do in terms of what we will bring on Saturday. I am sure it will be a game the supporters enjoy.”

Collins isn’t giving much away in terms of team selection but with Tuesday evening’s visit of Burton Albion coming into view, the City boss has spoken of the importance of squad rotation.

He added: “We will pick a team which is capable of beating Southend. Whatever we go with, those players will be given the responsibility of coming away with a result.

“Rotation has to be high on our agenda at the moment. Training how you would ideally like to isn’t always possible because you tend to find it is more about recovery from games.

“It is what it is. It is the way it is in England and it is the start of the season, so the fixtures come thick and fast. We understand the way it works and we won’t make any excuses.”

If you haven’t already purchased tickets for the game, you can pay on the gate tomorrow.
