WRIGHT TO CAPTAIN BANTAMS

1 August 2018

Josh Wright has been unveiled as Bradford City captain – with the start of the Bantams' Sky Bet League One campaign only days away.

The 28-year-old midfielder will skipper City alongside new vice-captain Anthony O'Connor, who arrived at the Northern Commercials Stadium shortly after fellow newcomer Wright.

Wright, who is sponsored by CBS, has spoken of his pride after being handed the captain's armband ahead of the 2018/19 season.

He said: “I am absolutely delighted and honoured to be asked to be captain for such a fantastic club.

“I cannot wait to wear the armband and lead the team out this Saturday and beyond.

“I have really enjoyed pre-season and have focused fully on doing as well as I can.

“There are many words I could use to describe how I feel. I feel a real sense of pride at the moment.

“I realise this will come with a little more responsibility and expectation but I am ready for the challenge. It is one I will relish.

“I am happy to lead from the front alongside Anthony (O'Connor).

“We have a lot of winners in our dressing room and he is one of them.

“He is a great guy and is very energetic. Together we will look to lead the team in the right direction, starting on Saturday at Shrewsbury.”

Bantams head coach Michael Collins added: “I have seen Josh grow throughout his career into a well-respected and extremely dedicated professional.

“From day one here, he has driven both himself and everyone around him.

“As much as I want the responsibility of leadership to be shared amongst the group, I am also aware of the prestige and responsibility of captaining such a great club.

“Josh's character has reassured me he can handle expectations while remaining focused on being the best player he can be.

“Both Josh and Anthony will lead our team with honour and pride this season."

See Wright lead out the Bantams for the first time - on Saturday - when Bradford travel to face Shrewsbury in their Sky Bet League One opener (kick-off 3.00pm).
