COLLINS SEEKING BANTAMS RESPONSE

13 August 2018

Michael Collins has challenged his Bantams to “respond” tomorrow evening when City kick off their Carabao Cup campaign at Macclesfield (Tuesday).

The City head coach saw his side lose out to Barnsley on Saturday but took the positives from Bradford's Sky Bet League One home opener.

The Bantams had chances to equalise after initially falling behind on the scoreboard, though a second Barnsley goal put paid to hopes of success at the Northern Commercials Stadium.

Collins is calling on City to right Saturday's wrongs and bounce back tomorrow night (kick-off 7.45pm).

He said: “I am not concerned by the result. The second goal just took the wind out of us and we didn't recover.

“The early goal swung momentum in their favour and we didn't show enough composure.

“We rushed our play and allowed Barnsley to keep threatening us.

“We made a pretty good start to the second half and the goal did come a little against the run of play.

“Barnsley will undoubtedly be a force in this division but I think, over time, we will be ourselves.

“There are plenty of things for us to work on and I left the field knowing quite clearly what they are.

“The League Cup competition is important to us and we want to do well in it.

“The Macclesfield game gives us an opportunity to put some things right. We will dust ourselves down and go again.”

PLEASE NOTE: All admission is to be gained at the turnstiles tomorrow evening – and no tickets can be purchased prior.

On Saturday, the Bantams travel to face Southend in Sky Bet League One.

Meanwhile, the Carabao Cup second-round draw will take place live on Sky Sports from the Stadium of Light on Thursday 16 August, ahead of Sunderland’s round-one game against Sheffield Wednesday.

Pundits Mick McCarthy and Chris Waddle will conduct the draw live on the programme from 7.00pm, with presenter David Prutton overseeing proceedings.

The draw sees the inclusion of the 13 Premier League clubs, who are not competing in European competitions alongside Sky Bet Championship sides Stoke City and Swansea City.

The draw is unseeded but will be regionalised into North and South sections. The remaining seven Premier League Clubs will enter the competition in round three.
