HOPKIN CALLING FOR FOCUS AHEAD OF SCUNTHORPE CLASH

David Hopkin insists his side must concentrate on their own game in order to overcome Scunthorpe - and record a third-straight victory on home soil.

The Bantams host Stuart McCall’s side at the Northern Commercials Stadium tomorrow, with three vital points up for grabs.

Victory will see City leapfrog Scunthorpe in the Sky Bet League One table and could be enough to see Hopkin’s men out of the bottom four.

The Bantams manager said: “We have performed well in recent games and now face another difficult game tomorrow.

“The players are in great spirits. We know it will be a tough game but everybody at the club is looking forward to it.

“I am sure Stuart McCall will get a good reception. I know him well and he deserves every bit of credit he gets from the crowd.

“But we need to concentrate on our own game. They have good players, who can be a threat to us, so it is vital we focus on ourselves and play at our best.

“With the atmosphere around the club you would not think we were in the relegation zone.

“But we are, and we have to deal with it. I am confident we will.

“The players are starting to believe in themselves and what we have been trying to do for the past few months.

“We got a good result against Walsall but we need to make sure we don’t get carried away with ourselves.”

Anthony O’Connor, Kelvin Mellor and Karl Henry are potential doubts for the Bantams - after picking up minor injuries last time out - while Jake Reeves, Luca Colville and Sean Scannell remain sidelined through injury.

However, with “decent” numbers still to choose from, Hopkin admits he faces something of a selection headache.

He added: “We have a pretty much full squad of players available - a squad full of players who compliment each other well.

“Our attacking midfield trio of Lewis O’Brien, Jack Payne and David Ball are really working well together.

“The improvement in physical and mental fitness has been the key for us, which was something we needed to improve when I came in.

“We started with one or two players who could work to their full potential for 90 minutes but now we have an entire squad capable of performing for long periods.

“Hope Akpan has done well to get himself back fit and he has played well in the last few games - which provides more options in midfield.

“Competition is healthy, which we have seen in the last few games, and everybody is performing at high levels because you have to fight for your place.

“Now we need to keep it up ahead of a tough run of games, though we are confident we can do that.”
