CITY'S DEVELOPMENT SQUAD COMPLETE COMFORTABLE CENTRAL LEAGUE WIN

6 February 2018

City's Development Squad picked up a comfortable home victory over Hartlepool United in the Central League this Tuesday.

With snow and sleet showers falling throughout the game, Joel Grodowski, Kai Bruenker and second substitute Matthew Birchall each netted to hand the Bantams a 3-0 success at their Apperley Bridge training ground.

Grodowski opened the scoring for City twelve minutes in when he converted from close range following Ellis Hudson's low cross.

Grodowski then turned provider just before the break, allowing strike-partner Breunker to score in similar fashion with a simple finish.

Birchall completed the scoring for City fifteen minutes from the end when he slotted home neatly in the box after a blocked shot had dropped into his path.

The Bantams could have made the scoreline look a lot more emphatic after a totally dominant display against their North East opponents.

Grodowski was denied three times in one-on-one situations during the game thanks to smart goalkeeping from Pools shot-stopper Ryan Catterick.

Jordan Gibson also went close on two separate occasions, while Hudson hit the bar after a surging run into the box in the second period.

The closest Hartlepool came to scoring was late on when Niall Short hit the base of George Sykes-Kenworthy's near post with a drive from inside the box.

Former Bantams defender Matthew Bates was in charge of Pools for the fixture.

Along with Breunker, Gibson, Grodowski and Hudson, fellow professionals Daniel Devine and Callum Gunner also started the second-string fixture for City.
