GILLIEAD SIGNS LOAN EXTENSION

4 January 2018

Alex Gilliead has committed his immediate future to the Bantams by penning a new loan deal at the Northern Commercials Stadium.

Gilliead put pen to paper on a fresh loan contract this Thursday, with the extension now keeping him at City from parent club Newcastle United until the end of the current 2017/2018 campaign.

After an initial spell on loan with City last season, Gilliead returned to the Bantams back in July and has gone on to become a regular starter in Stuart McCall's side.

Gilliead has featured twenty-nine times already for the Bantams this season.

The twenty-one year-old has netted twice for City during the campaign so far, including the equaliser in Monday's victory at Fleetwood Town.

He has also had a hand in four of the Bantams' goals in their last nine matches.

McCall said: "I'm understandably delighted that we've managed to keep hold of Alex.

"He has kept improving as the season has gone on.

"We said back in the summer when we were trying to entice him to return to the club that he would be given a good chance in the team, and he has certainly taken it.

"He adds something different to our squad. He gives us natural width, especially down that right hand side.

"He has got stronger and stronger, and he is becoming an important part of our team."
