SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE THIS FRIDAY

10 May 2018

The Club and the City of Bradford will join together on Friday (11th May 2018) to remember those who perished in the Valley Parade Fire Disaster 33 years ago during the now-annual service of remembrance.

Hundreds of fans are expected to join City players and staff members past and present on Friday morning as Bradford's Centenary Square comes to a standstill at 11.00am to allow those gathered to pay their respects, pause and reflect on the tragic events of 33 years ago.

The City Hall flag will fly at half-mast as a gathering of civic dignitaries and the public join together at the memorial sculpture in the square.

The service will include the reading of prayers, a rendition of 'Abide with Me', and a minute's silence for the victims of the tragedy.

In keeping with tradition, wreaths will also be left by the memorial sculpture as well.

On May 11th, 1985, tragedy struck when Bradford City played Lincoln City. Shortly before half-time a blaze engulfed the main stand. 54 Bradford supporters lost their lives along with 2 fans of Lincoln on that horrific day.

City fans are invited throughout the day on Friday to leave floral and/or other tributes by the Valley Parade fire memorial, which is situated just to the right hand side of the main entrance to the JCT600 Main Stand.

The stand itself will be open from 12noon on Friday to give supporters the opportunity for some quiet reflection.

On Friday, the Ticket Office will be closed between 10:00-13:00.

The Club Shop will be closed all day, but will re-open on Saturday (12th May) 10:00-15:00.
