Bantams boss David Hopkin has hailed the efforts of his side following Tuesday’s victory over Wimbledon, which saw City extend their unbeaten run to three games.
A first-half penalty, netted by Jack Payne, proved the difference and Hopkin’s men created several chances to seal their success during the closing stages.
The 1-0 triumph marked the City head coach’s first league victory since taking over the reins last month and Hopkin has spoken of his delight.
“We played well and were good value for what was a deserved victory,” he said.
“We asked for a physical, defensive effort and the players stood up and delivered.
“We got the penalty and I challenged the boys, at half-time, to hold on and take home the three points.
“The players worked hard and closed the game down brilliantly. Wimbledon threw a lot at us but we held firm.
“Everyone who played gave 100 per-cent. I am delighted for the players as we have something to build on.
“We knew it was going to be difficult. Wimbledon are a good team and they are hard to beat at home.
“It was a great result for us and I am really pleased for the fans who made the long journey down to support us.”
Jim O’Brien was helped from the field nursing a suspected hamstring problem, which is being assessed.
Eoin Doyle was ruled out prior to kick-off with a minor injury, forcing Hopkin to shuffle his starting 11.
He added: “We had to overcome a bit of adversity on the night, with a couple of players going down, making the result even more pleasing.
“We are building some momentum going into the Sunderland game, though, and have players coming back into contention.
“The support on Tuesday was fantastic and we are going to need everyone to come together and get behind us for what will be a massive game on Saturday.”
Skipper Josh Wright and Alex Jones are expected to return to full training tomorrow, with Jake Reeves (groin), Hope Akpan (shoulder) and Adam Chicksen (leg) all nearing their returns to Bantams action.
