CITY ARE #OnYourSide

10 October 2018

Today, the world recognises World Mental Health Day to raise awareness and show support for better mental health.

Today, the EFL and the Club want to inform all supporters and staff that we are #OnYourSide.

Every year, 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem and no matter who you are or what you do, you need someone there to support you.

In the summer, the EFL and Mind, national mental health charity, announced their charity partnership for the next two seasons.

As well as raising awareness among supporters, staff and Clubs, the partnership aims to:

  • Raise funds to deliver life-changing support
  • Improve the approach to mental health in the EFL, in football and in wider society

The EFL have already put things into action by printing a ‘squiggle’ on the back of every EFL football shirt. This is the first time that a charity logo has been incorporated into the player name.

At the Club, we wanted to show our support for World Mental Health Day.

Over the last month we have been working with Mind in Bradford to get expert advice on how we could raise awareness and show support leading up to this important day.

During half-time at last Saturday’s game (Bradford City v Sunderland), the Mind In Bradford football team played on the Northern Commercials pitch. Both City and Sunderland supporters were cheering the teams along and it was great to see supporters for both clubs getting involved.

Ahead of the team’s game on the pitch, we visited Mind In Bradford’s offices and went to watch their football team’s training session. Check out our video below about how Mind In Bradford, and sport has helped people with mental health problems.

Those who were in banqueting or our hospitality suites on Saturday, may have noticed the Mind In Bradford beermats which informed supporters of the services that they have for those in Bradford who need support.

Mind In Bradford also had their own page in our matchday programme, The Parader.

The Club are looking forward to working with Mind In Bradford to raise awareness, and funds and improve the approach to mental health in society.
