BANTAMS SEE OFF SCUNTHORPE

27 April 2019

City ended their away league campaign on a high, with an entertaining 3-2 victory at Scunthorpe in their penultimate game of the season.

A blistering start did the damage for the Bantams who - having raced three goals up inside the opening quarter of an hour - were made to weather a second-half Scunthorpe fightback to hold on to the points.

City were potent and clinical in the first period, taking the lead with only two minutes on the clock.

After a swift counter attack involving Eoin Doyle and Sean Scannell, Billy Clarke found space on the edge of the area to bend in the first goal of his second spell in claret and amber.

Gary Bowyer's side then made it two, 10 minutes later, when Clarke found Jermaine Anderson who fired into the bottom corner from the edge of the box for his first Bantams goal.

And it got even better for the visitors on 15 minutes when, following some neat build-up, a pin-point cross from Calum Woods was guided into the far corner by the head of top scorer Eoin Doyle - his 11th of the campaign.

However, Scunthorpe fought back after the interval.

Despite Ben Wilson producing a fine stop from the head of Rory McArdle, the hosts pulled a goal back on 64 minutes.

After a dubious corner was awarded, the third in quick succession for The Iron, substitute Kyle Wootton provided the final touch to turn home.

And the hosts set up a nervy climax for the Bantams when Lee Novak lifted over Ben Wilson with eight minutes to play, after being played through by Matthew Lund.

City successfully battled through six minutes of stoppage time for victory, much to the delight of the rapturous travelling contingent.
