BOWYER WELCOMES WINNING FEELING

29 April 2019

Gary Bowyer expressed his delight in ending City’s away league campaign with victory, after an entertaining 3-2 triumph at Scunthorpe.

The Bantams did the damage during the first half - with three goals in the opening quarter of an hour - and Bowyer was pleased with his side’s prolific nature in both boxes.

He said: “It has been a long time since we have had this feeling.

“It was the classic game of two halves. We showed how good we were in the first half defensively, and were clinical going forward, scoring three good goals.

“The second half was a different story. It was a great learning experience, we had five players on the pitch at the end of the game who were 22 years old and under.

“It was a great experience for them in terms of managing the game.

“We spoke about the fact Scunthorpe would be nervy at the start of the game and we had to try and capitalise on that. We did well in that sense.

“Then we knew there would be a reaction in the second half, and I was happy with how we coped.”

The City boss again felt indebted to the club’s impressive travelling support, and is desperate to end the season on a high next Saturday at home to Wimbledon, to give them a further reason to cheer.

Bowyer added: “Since I have been here, the supporters’ following has been magnificent - both home and away.

“I was jovial at the end with them, and they deserved it.

“We have an obligation to do it right for everyone else in the league (against Wimbledon), and for ourselves.

“I am delighted we have been able to send the supporters away cheering with the feeling of winning a game of football again, and we have got to try and do that again next week.

“Wimbledon are on an unbelievable run and are fighting for their lives. It is up to us, in our last home game, to try and put another good performance on.”
