BOWYER: 'WE WILL BOUNCE BACK'

Gary Bowyer has called for his side to "bounce back" after suffering their first league defeat of the season, against Forest Green Rovers.

A stoppage-time winner from Joseph Mills ensured the Gloucestershire-based Rovers left the Utilita Stadium with all three points.

And Bowyer feels a reaction to this result must come from his Bantams.

He said: “Obviously we were disappointed to have lost our first league game, especially in the manner we did.

“If we deal with the football, the actual goal is poor from us because we should have stopped the cross.

“Clayton Donaldson’s shot actually hit James Vaughan on the line, so we had a bit of bad luck there.

“It was a tight game against a team who were in the play-offs last year.

“The manager has been in place for three years and has built a reputation and a brand of football.

“We have to dust ourselves down. It is our first defeat in five and now we make sure there is a reaction next week.

“It was a cagey affair from both sides. First half I didn’t think our set-plays were good enough so we will look to improve that.

“But second half – those two chances and the one at the end – then the one offside are unfortunate for us.

“We have not been able to see if the free-kick that led to their goal was offside in the first place - where he flags James Vaughan.

“But unfortunately, today the game was spoilt by the officials.

“We watched it back – Kelvin scored – and he didn’t put his flag up straight away.

“It is one of them. The game had everything in terms of the passion and fight. We now need to move on from.”

Jamie Devitt was introduced at half-time, making his second debut after a previous loan spell with City back in 2011.

Callum Cooke also gained minutes off the bench and Bowyer is looking forward to what the pair can offer.

He added: “They both came on and showed they can contribute to how we want to go about the game and play.

“They showed promise and we have got to build on that with them, getting more minutes into them.

“We have a real honest bunch who stick together.

“They look after each other and have each other’s backs. There will be a reaction – for sure – which will start at Crewe."
