OPPOSITION GUIDE: CITY v FOREST GREEN ROVERS

23 August 2019

City return to action tomorrow, with Forest Green Rovers making the trip for the 3.00pm contest.

The Gloucestershire-based side will make their first-ever trip to the Utilita Energy Stadium.

After finishing in a play-off position last season, Mark Cooper’s men have continued their impressive vein of form and sit just a point behind the Bantams.

And we have compiled an Opposition Guide, packed full of detailed information on tomorrow's visitors...

The Nailsworth outfit have been busy throughout the summer, adding 11 players to the squad, with 14 others leaving for pastures new.

Ins: Matt Mills (FC Pune City), Kevin Dawson (Cheltenham Town), Dominic Bernard (Birmingham City), Adam Smith (Bristol Rovers), Aaron Collins (Morecambe), James Morton (Bristol City), Jojo Wollacott (Bristol City), Taylor Allen (Nuneaton Town), Ebou Adams (Ebbsfleet Town), Liam Kitching (Leeds United), Matthew Stevens (Peterborough United).

ONES TO WATCH

George Williams:

Williams signed for Forest Green last summer, from Fulham, having made 15 appearances in the Sky Bet Championship.

A Welsh international, the 23-year-old has scored six goals in 24 league games for the Rovers.

Matty Stevens:

Rovers’ new No.9 joined the side after a successful spell in non-league football with Kettering Town.

Stevens followed this up with six goals in nine appearances for Slough Town, convincing the Sky Bet League Two outfit to take a punt on the 21-year-old - who joined from Peterborough United.

Jojo Wollacott:

Wollacott made the short 30-mile trip across the south west of England, signing on loan from Bristol City in July.

After penalty heroics in his debut against Sky Bet Championship side Charlton, the former Woking man followed up with another clean sheet against Grimsby.

THE MANAGER

Mark Cooper is heading into his third season at Forest Green, having joined the club in 2016.

The Wakefield-born manager brings a wealth of experience, following a 20-year playing career and 15 years in management.

The 50-year-old led the Rovers to their highest-ever league finish last season, eventually losing out to Tranmere Rovers – who gained promotion.

THE CAPTAIN

Football league stalwart Joseph Mills welcomed his brother, Matt, to the club this season, linking the two together for the first time in their careers.

The Rovers’ captain has been a key member of Mark Cooper’s side, as the club establishes itself in the sport's fourth tier.

The left-back scored an emphatic penalty at Walsall a fortnight ago, following this up with an early equaliser against Port Vale.

LAST TIME OUT

In their previous fixture - on Tuesday - Port Vale managed to grab a home victory over Rovers, despite the away side enjoying the majority of possession.
