Sean Scannell was “buzzing” to score his first goal in claret and amber, as the Bantams recorded an emphatic 3-0 victory over Oldham Athletic.

Gary Bowyer’s men showed strong attacking intent from the outset at the Utilita Energy Stadium, sealing their first win of the new season.

And the City winger was delighted to have played his part in the triumph, wrapping up the three points with a lethal 72nd-minute strike.

Scannell said: “I loved it. It was great to get my first City goal. Clayton Donaldson played me in and I decided to just hit it as hard as I could. Thankfully, it went in.

“It was a great result. Everyone was happy to keep a clean sheet and we were all buzzing with the three points.

“Gary (Bowyer) has given us confidence to go out and play. He gives me the license to get goals and assists. I look forward to every game.

“I was unfortunate with injuries, last season. This time, with the support from the fans, I really want to kick on and have a good year.”

Scannell has spoken of how manager Bowyer’s summer recruitment drive has suited him well, with regards to his own on-field style.

The 28-year-old believes fast-paced football plays to his strengths, with the likes of James Vaughan and Clayton Donaldson "bringing the best out of him".

"When you have two strikers like Clayton and James Vaughan, you have to get crosses in," he added.

“That is all I try to do, because there is always the chance of them getting on the end of it. I want to provide them with the opportunity to score goals.

“They are two very experienced players. I played with Vaughany at Huddersfield and Crystal Palace so I know exactly what he and Clayts want.

“We practice drills in training and I work on my crossing every day.

“Strikers like that are keen to get on the end of things and hungry to score goals, which has a positive impact on my performance.”

City will be looking to make it back-to-back victories when visiting Stevenage on Tuesday evening (kick off 7.45pm). CLICK HERE to purchase tickets.
