Gary Bowyer praised the effort and endeavour of his City side, following a 1-0 victory at home to Newport County.

A James Vaughan penalty sealed a hard-earned three points for Bowyer’s men, to see them return to winning ways.

The Bantams boss was delighted with his side’s work rate in what he described as a “terrific team performance”.

He said: “It was a fantastic effort from the lads and the supporters, who played a massive part.

“It was a huge team performance and it proved hard to single any particular players out.

“We looked good going forward and showed superb effort - at the end - to keep them out.

“We looked a threat from set pieces and the way we went about our business and competed was terrific.

“A lot of chances were created in a physical game and we could have even had a few more, had it not been for a few fantastic saves from their goalkeeper.

“I am really pleased and we are delighted to have got the three points.”

The victory saw a slight change in formation and system from Bowyer’s men, as a result of a few key players missing out through injury.

The City chief believes his side adapted admirably to the change and insists he will need every player in his squad to be on form ahead of a busy festive schedule.

Bowyer added: “Hope Akpan, Harry Pritchard and Ben Richards-Everton were all carrying knocks, which was a big blow for us.

“We were delighted with how we were able to adjust to a bit of change and still get the result.

“It is a squad game and it is really pleasing to see the value of all our players.

“There is a lot more football still to be played and everyone will be very important between now and the end of the season.

“We have a busy Christmas period coming up and everyone will be essential. That is the beauty of having a good squad.”

Bowyer’s men are back in action at Leyton Orient, next Saturday (3.00pm). CLICK HERE to purchase tickets.
