BOWYER LOOKING TO MAKE DOMINANCE COUNT

Gary Bowyer has called for his players to ensure their dominance in games pays dividends - ahead of tomorrow’s visit of Mansfield Town.

City draw the curtain on their 2019 against the Stags, having had the mammoth share of possession and opportunities in recent weeks.

The Bantams boss is looking to make these figures count and end the calendar year with three points.

Bowyer said: “Mansfield have just had a change in manager so will have to quickly pick up from where they left off, and we will have to be aware of that.

“When we look at their squad and the quality they have, we know it will be another tough challenge.

“But, we are back at home - in front our our amazing support at Valley Parade, again - which we always look forward to.

“Hopefully, we can make all our possession and opportunities - which we have recently had - count.”

Bowyer has spoken of the difficulty of planning and preparing for so many matches in such a short space of time, particularly with illness in the camp.

A sickness bug has ruled several players out over the past few games, which the City chief admits has disrupted fluidity.

He added: “We are working with our club doctor to formulate on a plan of action with regards to how we go about dealing with the players we have out with illness, at the moment.

“We still had a lot of players coughing and spluttering in the dressing room after the Carlisle game. It is definitely hindering our momentum and flow.

“It is important we try and minimise the spread of it as much as we can, but we are at a time of year where we have to be in training and playing a lot in order to keep momentum up.

“Regardless of the circumstances, the one thing the players can control is their efforts.

“So far, the way they have gone about their business has been faultless. It is important we make sure whoever is out there, for us, is giving their all.”
