Paudie O’Connor was delighted to have played his part as the Bantams returned to winning ways at home to Newport County.

The retuning defender made his first start in claret and amber since October 12 as City recorded a 1-0 victory.

The 22-year-old was pleased to be able to get back out on the pitch and felt he and his team-mates deserved the three points.

O’Connor said: “It was great - after a couple of dips in form, over the past few weeks - to get back in front of our home crowd and get three points and a clean sheet.

“We always knew we were going to get chances and I think we did really well, in the second half.

“We got down the sides, got crosses into the box and looked a threat on set pieces, with Jake Reeves’ great delivery.

“It was good to get back out there, personally. Obviously, we have a strong squad and everyone is going to get their chance at some point.

“I was happy to play and get some more minutes under my belt and it was made even better with the win and clean sheet.

“Everyone is pleased with the result and, hopefully, we can continue winning.”

Despite emerging victorious, the centre-back insisted the Bantams were unlucky to not have put the game beyond their visitors’ sight.

O’Connor had an effort well saved in the second half, which only added to other opportunities City created to extend their advantage.

The Irishman added: “We created a lot of chances after the break and I think we were unlucky to not come away with two or three more goals.

“Remi Oteh had a great header and the keeper pulled off a brilliant save and then made a good save from me, as well.

“Plus, we had a few headers which went over the bar, so I thought we could have won by a bit more, overall.

“Any team who comes here is going to make it hard for us - which we have to expect. We dealt with the pressure well and did not let them play them to their strengths.

“We are more than capable of getting the wins together, now, and starting another winning streak.”
