VAUGHAN LOOKING TO MAINTAIN STANDARDS AT CARLISLE

24 December 2019

Captain James Vaughan insists City cannot let standards slip, ahead of their Boxing Day trip to Carlisle United.

The Bantams will be looking to record their first league double of the season, having beaten the Cumbrians 3-1 at home, in September.

Vaughan, however, knows Carlisle will be out for revenge and believes he and his team-mates must be on the top of their game to take home the three points.

He said: “You could say we are confident, having already beaten Carlisle once, this season.

“However, on the flip side, it will definitely give them an added incentive to go out there on Boxing Day and beat us. They will feel like they owe us one.

“We scored three goals against them at home and played well, so they will be coming out looking to put things right.

“We need to make sure our standards are up to how good we know they can be. Hopefully, it should make for a good game.”

After consecutive draws away from home, the former Everton man is hoping Gary Bowyer’s men can begin to start picking up more points on the road, beginning on December 26.

City’s visit to Brunton Park represents their final away trip of 2019 and Vaughan is determined to end the year on a positive note.

The 31-year-old added: “I think our away form is just one of them things, at the moment.

“We definitely do not go out - away from home - feeling less confident than we do at home.

“We go into every game trying to win and, for whatever reason, we have not quite been able to win as many games away as we have at home.

“We need to try and start to put that right - beginning on Boxing Day - because our away form really needs ironing out.

“We will be giving everything to try and get a result and hopefully we can come back from Carlisle with the three points.”

Over 1,300 travelling Bantams are set to descend on Cumbria for the clash, with tickets now OFF SALE.
