David Hopkin is backing his Bantams to respond this afternoon when City play host to Plymouth Argyle (kick-off 3.00pm).

Plymouth, who Hopkin’s men drew 3-3 with back in December sit only five points in front of City - in 16th place.

Today’s opponents have enjoyed an impressive recent run of form, winning four of their last six Sky Bet League One fixtures.

But Hopkin believes his side are capable of bouncing back from last weekend’s disappointing defeat to Fleetwood Town.

“The players have responded really well in training this week and everyone is looking forward to the game,” said the Bantams boss.

“Last Saturday did not pan out the way we had hoped but spirits are still high because the players know what they are capable of.

“The Fleetwood game was frustrating for everyone and we want to put that behind us by getting a good result against Plymouth.

“Plymouth will come and try and play. Derek Adams has done a fantastic job there and they are climbing the table.

“They are on a good run and are scoring plenty of goals. That is the way they go about their business and it should be an entertaining game.

“What they have proven is that a few good results can move you six or seven places up the league table - which is our aim.

“Although we lost last weekend, results went our way and kept it very tight at the bottom end of the division.

“But with that in mind we have to take our opportunities over the coming weeks and get away from where we currently are.”

Kelvin Mellor looks set to return to Hopkin’s matchday squad, following a lengthy lay-off.

But Calum Woods, who is still struggling with a hamstring injury, will play no part.

“Kelvin has worked extremely hard over the past eight weeks to get back to full fitness and he is back in contention,” added Hopkin.

“Calum is probably another couple of weeks away, his hamstring isn’t quite right and we don’t want to rush him back.

“We have some depth at the moment, which is a boost for us, with Sean Scannell also closing in on making a return for us.”
