City Under-18s fell to a 3-0 defeat away to West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield on Saturday.

In difficult conditions, the high-flying young Bantams were blown away by an explosive first-half performance from the division’s bottom side.

City were second best from the off and were behind with a quarter of an hour on the clock.

Huddersfield frontman Kian Harratt latched onto a long ball over the top and steered coolly past Alfie Darke in the City goal to give his side the lead.

The hosts continued to apply the pressure, with both George Alfieri and Darnell Mintus going close.

But they weren’t to be kept out much longer and were two up on 26 minutes.

After City dangerously surrendered possession on the byline, Will McCamley squared for the impressive Harratt who doubled his and his side’s advantage with another neat finish.

After a few half time changes the Bantams were much better in the second period and, with the wind on their side, enjoyed the majority of the play.

However, they were ultimately unable to create any clear-cut opportunities and it would be the hosts who added to their lead just after the hour mark to seal a comprehensive victory.

After City again gave the ball away inside the area, substitute Enock Takpe found space and fired into the top corner to condemn the young Bantams to only their third league defeat this season.

Having now dropped to second in the EFL Youth Alliance North East Division, Mark Trueman’s side will look to immediately bounce back when travelling to Lincoln in a re-arranged league fixture on Saturday.
