Bradford City have secured the services of defender Calum Woods until at least the end of the current season.

The 31-year-old, who can play left-back and right-back, arrives after departing Sky Bet Championship side Preston North End.

Woods spent five seasons with his former club, having signed from Huddersfield Town in 2014.

The Liverpool-born full-back has made more than 300 career appearances and is delighted to be joining the Bantams.

Woods said: “As soon as I knew Bradford were interested, I wanted to come and play.

“I have played in this league before, as well as having enjoyed a few promotions into the Championship, so will bring some experience with me.

“Bradford is a massive club and everybody knows that. We are not where we want to be at the minute but, hopefully, we can start to push ourselves up the table.

“There is a lot of competition for places at the back, which is always healthy in a big squad.

“I am excited to get going. It is a different challenge for me but an exciting one.

“I remember the atmosphere at Valley Parade from a few years back. I am chomping at the bit to play there - in front of the club's fantastic home support.”

City manager David Hopkin, completing his third new signing of the January transfer window, added: “We are delighted to have got this deal over the line.

“It is one, along with several others, we have been working on for some time now.

“Calum will bring a wealth of experience to the squad and add competition for places at the back.”

Meanwhile, City can confirm the departure of Thomas Isherwood.

The Swedish defender has left the club by mutual consent, after agreeing an early release from his contract.

Isherwood arrived at the Northern Commercials Stadium in June and leaves after making five appearances for the club.
