BANTAMS CLIP EAGLES' WINGS IN PRE-SEASON CLASH

16 July 2019

City returned to winning ways in their 2019/20 pre-season campaign, triumphing 2-1 at Eccleshill United.

A team made up of trialists and youth players contested the affair at the Mitton Group Stadium, with three goals in the second half deciding the result.

The first half started a slow affair, with chances few and far between for both sides.

City goalkeeper Gabriel Rosario had to be alert to make an impressive double stop 35 minutes in.

First, he parried Lewis Sugden’s long-range free-kick then picked himself from the floor to react to Jonny Irving who followed up.

The Bantams came out with more intent in the second period, taking the lead just 10 minutes after the restart.

Striker Kelsey Mooney intercepted a loose pass in the home defence and - bearing down on goal - planted the ball past the Eccleshill keeper.

Just over 10 minutes later, however, the hosts were back in it.

Sugden picked the ball up on the edge of the area and bent an effort into the far bottom corner to even matters.

But there was still time for the Bantams to regain the lead, scoring the eventual winner with under 10 minutes remaining.

Striker Miracle Okafor rose highest to head a corner from the right into the back of the net, to make it three wins from four in pre-season for the Bantams.

Gary Bowyer’s men continue their preparations this Saturday (July 20) when hosting Wigan Athletic (3.00pm).
