BOWYER LOOKING FORWARD TO OPENING PRE-SEASON CLASH

5 July 2019

Gary Bowyer is looking forward to the Bantams' opening pre-season clash, with a trip to Guiseley - tomorrow - lying in wait.

The City manager takes charge of his side for the first time on Saturday, since the end of last season, and believes the Leeds-based hosts will provide stern opposition in preparation for the coming campaign.

He said: “We are really looking forward to the Guiseley game, everyone is always eager for the first friendly.

“The lads have worked extremely hard over the first few weeks of training and I think we are as prepared as we possibly can be.

“We know a lot about Guiseley. They will be big, strong and very competitive, things we will definitely be made to deal with in League Two next season.

“This game will hopefully provide us with a tough test and will be the perfect way to get our pre-season campaign up and running.”

Bowyer is fully aware of the importance of the occasion, with a visit to Nethermoor Park having become something of a pre-season norm for several years.

The former Blackpool boss believes it is essential to maintain strong ties with local clubs, aiding the two clubs' respective pre-season preparations.

He added: “This particular friendly is a really important one; the club have been taking the trip to Guiseley for quite a few years now.

“It is really important we keep positive relationships with the likes of Guiseley. These teams provide really good opposition in pre-season, and a great day out for the fans.

“It is always good to get around your local clubs and establish a connection; it excites the supporters and they love to see the new signings on show.

“Hopefully, they are all able to enjoy it and we can all have a productive day.”
