Sean Scannell is keen to hit the ground running when City’s Sky Bet League Two campaign gets underway, with pre-season training entering its second week.

The Bantams winger, who arrived at the Northern Commercials Stadium last summer, spent several months sidelined last season nursing a back injury.

But the former Huddersfield Town man is now delighted to be back fit and is looking forward to an "important" season in claret and amber.

Scannell said: “Pre-season has been really tough so far. Last week was quite difficult, but it has been good and I am enjoying it.

“I can feel myself getting fitter and stronger, which is the main thing.

“As soon as the final game of last season finished, I could not wait for pre-season to begin - after the injury problems I had last year.

“This season is a massive one for the team and myself, personally.

“I just want to play as many games as possible and do as well as I can for the team."

Scannell is looking forward to the Bantams’ opening pre-season friendly away to Guiseley this Saturday (July 6).

The 28-year-old believes, while pre-season is important in building fitness for the coming campaign, match experience is essential in brushing off cobwebs ready for the start of the term.

He added: “I cannot wait for the first friendly.

“Obviously pre-season is important in getting the season off to the best start - and all the running is important for your fitness.

“But when the games come you have to really work hard and listen more closely to what the manager is demanding.

“The first game is always tough. You sometimes feel a bit rusty but it will be good to get back out on the pitch again.

“Hopefully, over the coming weeks, we will get more used to playing a full 90 minutes.”
